Ahhh. It’s that time of year again. You can’t avoid it. As soon as the candy canes disappear from the store, they are replaced with enough heart shaped boxes of chocolate and sickeningly sweet chalky candy hearts to make your eyes sick. Love is in the air. All of the “awwws” and “will you be mine”‘s.
Can’t you feel it?
Well I can’t. Like usual, Mr. Saint Valentine will pass over my house leaving me no holiday cheer (I think I’m getting my holidays confused here). To be honest, I think the last time I got a “valentine” from someone, was back in elementary school when the class had to give cards and candy to everyone
But anyway, back to the matter at hand. It’s Valentine’s Day People!
Now maybe some of you are like me, *cough* a cynic *cough* and can’t get into the ooey gooey mushy love stuff. Or maybe you’re just not in the spirit because you don’t have that “special someone” to celebrate with; or like me can’t find anyone that will take you (commence the playing of the worlds smallest violin please).
If you are reading this, and you happen to fit this category, listen up! There still might be hope for you this Valentine’s Day. And if you’re reading this and don’t fit the description, because you already have a special someone, then “woo hoo” we’re all so happy for you – NOW GO AWAY! Just kidding, this is relevant to you too.
By now you all have probably gathered that I have celebrated quite a few Valentine’s Days without a significant other. But what I have come to realize is, I don’t need the traditional “valentine” on Valentine’s Day. Being a part of Mentor Up has given me a renewed perspective on many things, this day included. Valentine’s Day isn’t just about the one you love, but all those you love, including the ones that love you too.
It is a heart-warming experience to be a part of Mentor Up’s first Valentine’s Day. That said, we at Mentor Up would love to use this day as an opportunity to make a difference. Today let us all remember the people in our lives that have loved us unconditionally: the parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and many others. Let us remember all the mentors in our lives that have helped us, and have always been there for us.
Today we have the chance to not only brighten someone else’s day, but our own too. Use this Valentine’s Day to express your love for the mentors in your life.
The smallest act of kindness can make the biggest difference.
The more you give the more you get.
Happy Valentine’s Day ❤
